Askkanwii Filmmaking Hub
Beyond Just
Story Telling.
Our Work
At Askkanwii Filmmaking Hub and Studios, we are building Colorado into a nationally recognized center for filmmaking, storytelling, and cultural diplomacy. Our work centers voices and communities that have historically been underrepresented in the film and creative industries, while positioning Colorado as a global crossroads for diverse narratives.
We serve as a creative bridge between Colorado, Africa, and the African diaspora, equipping emerging and established filmmakers with the tools, skills, platforms, and professional networks needed to develop authentic stories and sustainable creative careers.
Our Core Programs
Filmmaking Education & Workforce Development
We deliver accessible, culturally responsive training programs that prepare filmmakers for real-world creative and industry opportunities. Our offerings span storytelling, directing, cinematography, editing, documentary practice, and digital distribution, with an emphasis on mentorship and hands-on learning.
Filmmaking Production & Storytelling Platforms
Askkanwii provides professional production platforms that support the development of high-quality films, documentaries, and digital content. Through partnerships, mobile production models, and curated project support, filmmakers are empowered to bring their creative visions to life with industry-level standards.
Film Forums, Exhibitions & Public Engagement
We curate screenings, forums, exhibitions, and cultural events that amplify diverse stories and foster dialogue. These public-facing platforms create opportunities for collaboration, audience engagement, and cross-cultural exchange, while connecting filmmakers with peers, institutions, and industry professionals.
Through these integrated programs, Askkanwii advances cultural diplomacy through film, strengthens Colorado’s creative economy, and supports filmmakers in telling stories that reflect the richness, complexity, and global connections of our communities.
Just some dreamers
Vision 54
Our vision is to have Askkanwii Filmmaking Hubs in all 54 countries of the continent of Africa in years to come.
Askkanwii Filmmaking Hub has been developing filmmaking programs, production platforms, and filmmaking forums accessible to people who traditionally have not had access or opportunity in the industry. We do this through online mentoring, teaching, and collaboration.
The global pandemic allowed us to think outside of the box about co-creation methods that preserve African narratives that are unique to specific countries. In addition, it was evident that new technology could be used to showcase hidden skills and talents that exist in areas of the world that have historically been under resourced in the filmmaking industry. This co-creation across borders will bring stories, content, and discoveries to the American market.
Askkanwii (Wolof dialect of Senegal) translates to “community” and we believe that is just what all films are made of – the ideas, skills, talents and passions of community. As a nonprofit, our main goal is to provide opportunities for young people to shine in the industry.
We welcome partners, collaborators, production companies, distributors, and investors to join this unique and exciting opportunity to unite filmmakers beyond borders. Please reach out to Ousmane Ndoye, Founder and Executive Director, with inquiries or questions.
